23rd March 2013
The first seasonal talk – Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and Exercise was taken part in the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups Building on 23rd March 2013. The talk aimed to enhance people’s understanding of treatments and related exercises for patients suffered from PsA. There were 110 participants in total.
At the beginning, the talk was conducted by Dr. Gavin LEE, a specialist in Rheumatology, who mainly focused on explaining the factors and diagnosis of PsA. By introducing different kinds of treatment and ways to relieve pains, Dr. LEE clarified the misunderstanding about “PsA seems won’t heal”. And more importantly, Dr. LEE emphasized the significant of medication and raising the public’s awareness, which would definitely benefit on improving patients’ condition.
Apart from this, the talk was continued by Ms. Lavin WONG, a physiotherapist, who introduced the pain-relieving methods and exercises at home. While Ms. WONG simply showed the daily exercises to ease the pains, all of the participants followed the instructions and found the exercises useful.
A patient from HKPsAA was invited to share her experiences afterward. The patient shared her condition and difficulties when suffering from PsA. She also encouraged other patients being positive to face the problem, which shows much supportive to participants.
The talk then followed by a Q&A session where participants actively asked questions. Dr. LEE and Ms. WONG answered with patience to solve their doubts. The audiences found the information from the talk useful and hoped to participate to the activities in the future.
