SLE Talk – Blood Test & Treat to Target

A public talk of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) – the blood test and treat to target, was held on 12th December 2012 at Lecture Hall of Hong Kong Science Museum. There were 164 participants in total.

At the beginning, Hong Kong Arthritis & Rheumatism Foundation (HKARF) and Hong Kong Lupus Association (HKLA) briefly introduced their objectives, mission, and services in between patients and the public.

And then, the talk was conducted by Dr. Gavin LEE, a Specialist in Rheumatology, who mainly focused on explaining how blood test would diagnose SLE and for the follow-up testing to patient’s condition.

Apart from this, Dr. LEE also suggested that patients should pay attention to their own clinical manifestation, such as by visual problem, arthritis, rash, alopecia, Raynaud’s, and so on. These help patients to aware the effectiveness of the treatment and predict any side effect of the medicine used.

The talk followed by a Q&A session where participants actively asked questions. Dr. LEE answered with patience to solve their doubts. The audiences found the information from the talk useful and hoped to participate in the activities held by CRN and HKARF in the future.
