The Jockey Club Rheumatic Patient Rehabilitation and Education Programme was launched

With the support by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, Hong Kong Arthritis and Rheumatism Foundation Limited is pleased to launch the Jockey Club Rheumatic Patient Rehabilitation and Education Programme (the Programme).

Through a series of evidence-proved training activities effective for rheumatic disease care, this programme will facilitate rheumatic patient participants to control their disease, overcome hardships and live with the diseases in a more relaxing and confident way.

Besides, community exhibitions and various e-learning platforms of the Programme will strengthen awareness among the public on arthritis and rheumatic diseases. It also helps to promote people with similar symptoms to have early identification and treatment so as to reduce possible complication.

Programme Objectives:
1. Empower rheumatic patients to master and engage in rehabilitation activities to improve the quality of life.
2. Establish peer coach support network and strengthen community resources and collaboration to increase supports to rheumatic patients.
3. Increase public awareness of arthritis and rheumatic diseases.

Six Rehabilitation and Educational Services:

1. Hydrotherapy Programme
Service content: Patients receive hydrotherapy training from the physiotherapist in the water pool.
Expected starting time : After September 2020
Service users: Rheumatic patients with referral from Rheumatologists, Rheumatic Nurses, or Rheumatic Patient Self-help Groups.

2. Physiotherapy Exercise Programme
Service content: Patients receive exercise training from the physiotherapist to release their pain.
Expected starting time : After September 2020
Service users: Rheumatic patients with referral from Rheumatologists, Rheumatic Nurses, or Rheumatic Patient Self-help Groups.

3. Rheumatic Patient Self-Management Programme (RPSMP)
Service content: Participants can control and manage better their disease through learning disease self-management skills, including knowledge of symptoms &treatment, measures of joints protection & pain controls, exercises, drug usage and action plan setting.
Expected starting time: From October 2020
Service users: Rheumatic patients and their family members

4. Rheumatic Peer Coach Training & Patient Support Service*
Service content: Trained patients as peer coaches to support other patients by organizing mutual-help events and offering individual peer support .
Expected starting time: From September 2020
Service users: Patient volunteers, Rheumatic patients and their family members who are interested in joining volunteer services
*Remarks: Selection for participants will be conducted.

5. Rheumatic Disease Experiential Learning Community Exhibition
Service content: Through territory-wide exhibitions, the public can experience the lifestyle and limitations and of being a rheumatic disease patient.
Expected starting time : From August 2021
Service users: The public

6. Rheumatic Disease E-learning Platforms
Service content: Through different online platforms of HKARF, such as HKARF website, facebook fanpage, youtube channels, the public can have a proper understanding of rheumatic disease and its management skills.
Expected starting time : From August 2020
Service users: Patients and their family members, the public
